Background (why now)

None of us are strangers to the problems that arise when health care institutions are short-staffed – namely, this puts at risk our ability to provide quality care, especially to vulnerable populations. In many cases, states have been forced to allow additional categories of health care workers to provide care to meet staffing needs. This issue has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, including factors such as staff physical and mental fatigue, and early retirement. Aside from these emerging pressures, many of our health care professionals are reaching the age for retirement. While these circumstances sound daunting, there is also an opportunity to develop innovative recruitment strategies and leverage an influx of new employees to affect change in a large-scale way. Many of your fellow leaders have asked that we come together more meaningfully to shine a light on what has been working for them and identifying shared questions to help solve in the new year.

During this smaller format, executive roundtable discussion, we will engage in conversation around the topics listed below and discuss how leading healthcare organizations are addressing them in various targeted ways:

  • The new, multigenerational workforce has varying needs and values of great importance to their engagement and well-being, meaning a possible shift in benefits offerings
  • Virtual/Remote and other non-traditional recruitment methods, as well as diversity and inclusivity hiring practices are crucial for attracting top talent
  • Retention strategies such as well-being programs, flexible hours, and hybrid work models, as well as employee engagement
  • An influx of new hires must all go through orientation and onboarding – creating an opportunity to engage these large groups in new strategies, ways of working, and other organizational changes

Format (how it works)

This small group of expert leaders across health will share in a collaborative, guided, 90-minute dialogue hosted by a Root health care expert in partnership with Accenture. In true Root fashion, this isn’t like a typical webinar or virtual forum. It’s focused, fun, intellectual, visually guided, and human-focused.
