Imagine walking into your local watering hole and taking a seat at the bar. The bartender sets your choice beverage in front of you, let’s just say, I don’t know, a brown ale. However, the drink becomes the last thing on your mind, because the moment the drink touches the bar top it is illuminated from underneath, and bars of light connect your beverage with those of other patrons at the bar. You are immediately connected with complete strangers, and engaged in the environment.

Although this is an obvious marketing technique to provide a new experience for the patrons of these bars, it hits on one key factor that is essential in a learning environment: the engagement of the patron. Now imagine group learning sessions around an interactive touch screen where all learners will be physically connected and engaged in the session. This may not be too far in the future, but for now, I’m going to have to find one of these pubs and do some more… research.
