“We are all clear on the words of the strategy and can repeat them verbatim. However, it is as if we are looking into a black hole when we try to see what it is that we should be doing differently.” — Frustrated Manager

I hear this all the time – I just heard it recently. Unfortunately, it’s an all-too-common situation. At Root, we believe that team members, managers, crews, associates, and employees are customers of an organization’s strategy. Leaders who know this know they have to meet their people where they are, tap into their discretionary effort, and connect to their strategic agenda. It turns out that creating the strategy is often the easy part. Translating it into something that makes sense to the recipients is where the real heavy lifting happens.

That’s why we are dedicating this year’s Watercooler® Newsletter issues to the Year of the Person. Our goal is to bring you leading-edge perspectives about how to anticipate, understand, and initiate conversations with your people so that they can take their individual and your collective game to the next level.

Do you have an idea for a topic you’d like to see explored this year? Tell us!

Jim Haudan, CEO of Root, further explores this topic in his Watercooler® article, “If I Were You, How Would I Engage Me?” He will be a featured author throughout 2013.
